In disguise

A quick improvisation with water colours. All the time I did it, I had the feeling, that this character is hiding something under the hat, robe and big beard. The tail hanging out suggest some mischievous but funny character. Maybe I'll reveal more of him some time.

This magical piece went to a very good friend. Though lacking any supernatural beings, the whole colour pallette and dramatic contrasts suggest fantasy art.

The thief

This is an older painting, which I at some point forgot. Still, it's of monster size with the height of some 150-160 cm's and it took me forever to finish it.

Going into details

Time works against the artist. I often balance between going into further details and finishing the painting. The compromise is decreasing the painting's size. This one is A4 size, painted on special painting paper which has a nice thin texture as well.

Based on a fairy tale by the brothers Grimm

Illustrations created for one of the stories by the brothers Grimm. Under them I included the poster of the Moscow exhibition, where the illustrations were presented.

A different 'Unexpected meeting'

To restudy a composition has always given rich outcomes. It's very understandable why old masters used to to small 'sketches' before going for the real thing (many of these pre-works are so perfectioned that they work as individual pieces of art). On this work I could skip many of the colour problems that I had solved already on the first work and concentrate more on problems, that didn't strike me before. Still, there are those changes as well, where I just wanted to try something different, take the branch of the tree for example.

Ford (revisited)

K, now, i was satisfied with the first outcome, but later had a feeling to give it another shot, so, here's what came out.

Islandia was made just 3 days  before the second volcano eruption on Iceland. Would have been insignificant in my vocabluary, but the thing is, that i painted another volcano painting at the time the first big eruption was, while not connecting to it at all, so it kinda caught my attention.

Unexpected meeting II

For all you crazy fantasy freaks who like to dwell in mystic places with your feet and in your mind. And 'no', it's not Gollum climbing down the tree, the idea came from Princess Mononoke, a special dedication to the tree spirits with spinning heads, they made my day.

The genre of sportspainting....

...was fun to approach, since it's very similar to action or comic painting with all of it's motion and dynamic figures. And, because i was ordered to catch a real life scene, I found reasonable to go for photorealism, which is another new thing for me, but which' succession i owe to previous fantasy art paintings.
